Admissions Consultation for entry in September 2020
Colchester County High School for Girls, Alpha Trust is consulting upon changes to the Admissions Policy for Year 7 and Year 12 in September 2020.
Following a general consultation about an additional form of entry in Year 7 from 2020 in June-July 2018 we are now consulting on the specific proposed changes to the Year 7 Admissions Policy in anticipation of a successful Grammar School Expansion Fund bid. Should the expansion proposal and additional capital development funding not be accepted by the DfE the existing Admissions Policy for Year 7 entry will be carried forward for September 2020 entry.
The main change is to increase the Published Admissions Number (PAN) from 160 to 192 students, giving higher priority to disadvantaged students. Up to 20 places will be available to the highest scoring applicants who are eligible for free schools meals or for whom their primary school receives the pupil premium and who achieve a test score of 320 or more. The proposed Admissions Policy is attached.
A Fair Access Plan to support an increase in 11+ applications from disadvantaged candidates is also attached for information.
In addition we are consulting on proposed changes to the Sixth Form Admissions Policy for entry to Year 12 in September 2020.
The main changes are regarding the number of A Levels to be studied and to the oversubscription criteria.
There are no changes proposed to the existing In-year Admissions Policy.
The consultation period runs from Tuesday 13 November 2018 to 4.00pm on Tuesday 08 January 2018. Any responses to this proposal should be sent to Mrs Lesley Pye, Data & Administration Manager by 4.00pm on Tuesday 08 January 2018 via any of the following methods:
- By post to: Mrs Lesley Pye, Data & Administration Manager, Colchester County High School for Girls, Norman Way, Colchester, Essex. CO3 3US

In Year Admissions
Applicants for places other than for the start of Year 7 will be tested if and when a place becomes available. The school holds an ‘enquiry list’ for applicants who wish to be considered for testing should a place become available. Where a vacancy does occur, all applicants on the enquiry list will be contacted and invited to sit the entrance tests. The tests are held at the discretion of the school. The tests and assessments will not aim to replicate the 11+ selection tests but will seek to establish whether the applicant can sustain the pace of the school's classroom education, fit the levels of achievement of the relevant year group, and has sufficient knowledge and understanding to undertake the relevant year group's existing programmes of study. An academic reference may also be sought from the applicant’s current school. The school reserves the right not to fill a place if the candidates are not judged to be of the required academic standard.
Please see the School Admissions Policy below.
Applications should be made on the Essex Mid Term Admissions Form (see link below)
