Dear interested party

RE: Consultation on admission arrangements

The consultation period for the Admissions Policy for the academic year 2025-26 for Colchester County High School for Girls will run from 16 November 2023 until 28 December 2023; during this time, parents and other key stakeholders are invited to express their views about the admission arrangements at Colchester County High School for Girls.

In accordance with the DfE’s 2021 statutory ‘School Admissions Code’ guidance, as a school we must consult on our admission arrangements when changes are proposed, and at least once every seven years.

We are proposing to make the following changes to our oversubscription criteria:

  • Up to 10 places will be available to the highest scoring applicants who are eligible for the Service Pupil Premium (SPP)3 who achieve a score of 320 or above and live at a permanent home address within the priority area as defined below5.
  • Places will then be allocated in descending score order from the Rank Order of Merit List, highest scoring first, for girls who permanently live within the priority area as defined below5 until 154 places have been allocated from the combination of the above criteria in 1-4.
  • The remaining 38 places will then be allocated in descending score order from the Rank Order of Merit List, highest scoring first, regardless of where the girls live.
  • 5The priority area for CCHSG is defined as 25 miles from the school.  All straight line distances, from the school’s front door, are calculated electronically by the Local Authority using data provided jointly by the Post Office and Ordnance Survey. The data is used to plot the coordinates of each individual property and school and provides the address points between which straight line distance is measured. Distances are reported in miles to three decimal places in the first instance.

The above changes have been extracted from the Admissions Policy section 1.3, Entry & Eligibility.  Further information and the full over subscription criteria can be found in the policy document.

In accordance with statutory DfE guidance, the consultation will run for at least six weeks and, as an interested party at Colchester County High School for Girls, we are keen to hear your views on the proposed admission arrangements.

All responses to the consultation should be made in writing and submitted before 17.00 on 28 December 2023 to:

Mrs S Hughes, Associate Vice Principal, Colchester County High School for Girls or via email to admissionspolicy@cchsg.com.

Please note that written responses should outline your personal details, including your name, address and relationship to Colchester County High School for Girls.

At the end of the consultation period, the Governing Body will meet to consider responses and submit a final policy to the Alpha Trust Board of Trustees for approval.
