We became an Academy on the 1st of October 2011 after fully considering all available options. As a result of this change of status we have been able to access capital funding which would not otherwise have been possible. Please find below links to related Academy documentation.
In 2002 the school was one of the first in the country to be awarded the status of Science Specialist School by the Specialist Schools Trust. This meant we could replace some of the old laboratories and improve facilities for the Sixth Form.
In 2006 we were awarded a second specialism in Modern Foreign Languages. We have strong links with schools in Germany and France which has resulted in us having a combined orchestra with our German partner school along with annual exchange programmes. A link school in the Jiantsu region of China has been identified and plans are underway to further pursue this relationship.
In addition to the specialisms the school was appointed lead School in a Leading Edge Partnership with Alderman Blaxill and Thomas Lord Audley schools in Spring 2007. The purpose of the Leading Edge Partnership is to develop innovative ways of raising the attainment in the partner schools.
In 2009 we were awarded Thinking School Status. We have introduced 3 thinking tools throughout the school. These are De Bono's Hats, Mind Maps and CoRT skills along with reinforcing our 10 chosen Habits of Mind. We use these tools across all subjects and they have become an integral part of our teaching.
In 2013-2014 the school has been developing and evaluating its Creative Arts programme both in lessons and through extra-curricular activities and creativity across the curriculum, and will be submitting a portfolio for Arts Mark validation in summer of 2014.
