Course Outline

Year 7 All students study two courses, ‘Believe it or not’ and ‘Buddhism’.

Year 8 All students study Judaism, Islam, Sikhism, and Hinduism for two terms, and they commence the study of their G.C.S.E. course in the summer term.

Year 9 All students study a full G.C.S.E. course of Religious Studies, Philosophy and Ethics (Syllabus B) and these topics will include the following modules:

B601  Beliefs about Deity, End of life, and Religious and Spiritual experience.
B602  Good and Evil, Revelation, and Science.
B603  Relationships, Medical ethics, and Poverty and Wealth.
B604  Peace and Justice, Equality, and Media. Students will only study a selection of these topics, and they will be examined on TWO topics at the end of the year.

Year 10 All students will complete their remaining modules and sit a further TWO exams at the end of year 10.

Year 11 Students will have completed their G.C.S.E. course at the end of year 10.

Year 12 Students will study courses from the OCR Religious Studies course, and  at AS level in the following areas:

Philosophy: Plato and Aristotle, Judaeo/Christian concept of God, The goodness of God, Arguments for the existence of God, The problem of Evil. Ethics: Natural Law, Kantian ethics, Utilitarianism, and Religious ethics, Applied ethics, Abortion, Euthanasia, Genetic engineering, War and Peace.

Year 13 Students will study the following courses:

Philosophy: Religious language, Religious experience, miracles, Attributes of God, The problem of Evil and the Afterlife.

Ethics: Meta ethics, Free will and Determinism, Predestination, Conscience, Applied ethics, Sexual ethics, Business and Environmental ethics.
