Psychology

‘Brain Day’ -  5th December 2014

Dr Guy Sutton working with Year 11,12 & 13 Psychology students.

Psychology is offered at GCSE and A level. During the academic year we aim to run a range of trips. We run a Year 11 cross-curricular trip with the Biology department to Colchester Zoo. The focus of the trip is Phobias and Aggression which links with the GCSE specification. AS and A2 students attend a conference in London, which develops their subject knowledge. Conferences this academic year have included Science & Pseudoscience for A2 students and Eyewitness Testimony for AS students. Year 11, 12 and 13 students attended an internal Brain Day by Dr Guy Sutton, where they furthered their knowledge of the brain and watched a brain dissection.

The department also has close links with the University of Essex and AS students will attend a Sixth Form Research Day at the university this summer, where they will experience a range of psychology experiments currently taking place in the department and work with other local Sixth Form students.

Psychology guest speakers are also arranged as available at appropriate points throughout the course.
